I think I've finally got the art of flash-exposing figured out. These three were taken in the dark of an outdoor tent at around 8 or 9pm. Ambient light was pretty dim. Note the photo on the left side, finally, an error that had nothing to do with my handling (or lack thereof). It looks as if the emulsion of that photo was spread a little thin in the middle, probably a byproduct of working with expired film, and definitely a risk I'm willing to take. I took a bunch of shots that night. Most went home, with their subjects, as proud souvenirs.
